My teaching approach is student-centred, flexible, and highly personalized. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to a single teaching method. At the beginning of our work together, I take time to understand your goals, current level, interests, strengths, and areas where you would like additional support. From there, I develop lessons that are both structured and responsive to your progress.
I have more than seven years of teaching and tutoring experience and currently work as a multi-subject teacher at an international school in Tokyo, where I teach students from elementary through high school. My experience includes English language learning, English literature, history, social studies, social sciences, economics, SAT preparation, and other interdisciplinary subjects. I have also worked extensively with students in one-on-one and small-group settings, which has taught me how important it is to adjust the pace and style of a lesson to the learner.
My English lessons emphasize practical communication alongside a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, pronunciation, and comprehension. For conversational English, I encourage students to speak as much as possible and use their interests and real-world situations to create natural opportunities for communication. Mistakes are treated as part of the learning process rather than something to be embarrassed about.
For academic subjects, I focus heavily on understanding rather than memorization. I frequently use questions, examples, visual materials, discussion, and connections between different subjects to make difficult concepts easier to understand. When a student is struggling, I break the concept into smaller pieces, identify exactly where the confusion begins, and rebuild their understanding from there.
My lessons are interactive rather than lecture-based. I want students to ask questions, challenge ideas, make connections, and become active participants in their own education. As students become more confident, I gradually encourage greater independence so that they develop not only knowledge of the subject but also the skills necessary to continue learning on their own.
Above all, I aim to create a comfortable and intellectually curious environment where students feel respected and supported. Whether your goal is to become more confident speaking English, improve your academic writing, prepare for an examination, strengthen a particular school subject, or simply learn something new, I will work with you to develop lessons that are meaningful, engaging, and suited to your goals.
