DON’T JUST LEARN IT, LIVE IT!
My approach focuses on making language acquisition both simple and inspiring. I aim to make learning "soft and sound" by breaking English lessons into manageable, comprehensible chunks. To achieve this, I use a rich mix of colors, images, stories, life experience, and music. If I were to compare my lessons to physical activity, it would be more like dancing than working out at the gym. To be more specific, I would like to break down my teaching philosophy as follows:
I prioritize fluency first, allowing accuracy to follow gradually. This psychological approach builds learner confidence; after all, no one wants to speak if interrupted every two or three words for a correction. Speak like you already knew it.
Regarding the curriculum, I incorporate real-life experiences into my lessons—situations learners may have encountered without noticing, or stories they can learn from others’ experience. For example:
• The Market Scenario: You are at the market, bargaining for a hand of bananas priced at $1.60 per kg. Suddenly, another buyer—already holding her own bananas—interrupts to urge you to buy them, claiming it’s a great price. Why?
• The Social Scenario: A 43-year-old man claims it is normal for him to marry someone aged 40. However, when Jane (a 37-year-old) speaks to him, he becomes aggressive. He insists that if he were to fall in love, he would choose Kim, the 25-year-old sitting opposite him. Why?
I also make use of a wide range of teaching materials, carefully selected from hundreds of resources. By the end of my course, learners will view English not as a race for test-taking, but through a new lens. They will see the immediate benefits of language skills applied to real life thanks to practical topics like discourse analysis, speech acts, body language, psychology, and business etiquette.
• For instance: When your boss welcomes a guest or a potential business partner, on which side should you sit as the director's assistant? Why?
If you are wondering about how long a course will take, I prefer a 45-day term for every course I design. My "learner-centered" focus allows students to decide their own pace—choosing which weeks they feel ready for a class. When a student feels truly ready to engage, it is the most effective time for them to learn. Meanwhile, a model framework is also provided to ensure they stay on track.
By the ways, English comes into learners' lives naturally and positively. They are actually living it, not just learning it!
