My teaching approach is grounded in creativity, play-based learning, and nurturing a love for the English language from an early age. I taught English to Pre-grade R learners (ages 4–5) for three years, where I developed and implemented age-appropriate lessons that encouraged language development through storytelling, songs, games, and hands-on activities. My goal has always been to create a warm, engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.

I completed a Grade 1– Grade 3 play-based learning course in 2018, which qualifies for the 15 CPTD credits in terms of the requirements set out by the South African Council for Educators in terms of sectionv 5(b) of the South African Council for Educators Act 31 of 2000. This significantly influenced my teaching methods. I believe young children learn best through exploration and interaction, so I structure my lessons to promote curiosity, confidence, and communication skills. For example, I incorporate dramatic play, phonics-based games, group discussions, and sensory activities to help learners connect language with real-world meaning.

My classroom is dynamic and inclusive. I pay close attention to each learner’s needs, adjusting my approach to ensure all children participate and feel encouraged. I also build strong relationships with my learners, fostering mutual respect and trust.

Although I don’t have formal teacher training, I studied English at home language level from Grade 1 to Grade 12, which gave me a solid foundation in grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. Combined with my practical experience and natural love for teaching, this background has helped me support early language development in a meaningful way. I aim to inspire confidence and joy in learning, laying a strong foundation for lifelong literacy.
