Richard Ricot

I enjoy teaching English to learners of all levels and ages, from beginner to advanced, teenagers to pensioners.

I am from London in the UK and have lived in Germany for 15 years. I have been teaching English at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology since 2020, teaching general, business and technical English. Additionally, I taught at University College London and Birkbeck, University of London for 5 years, where I held classes and seminars on Greek and Roman history, historical literature, historiography, and essay writing skills. I also have many years of experience helping adult learners improve their English for professional and social reasons.

I focus on building confidence through speaking exercises, grammar practice and vocabulary extension. During my lessons, I identify what students can do well, and help them improve weaker areas. My lessons therefore work best when they are interactive, with students engaging as much as possible.

My educational background: I have a doctorate in ancient Greek history from University College London, a Master's degree in Ancient History and a Bachelor's degree in Ancient History. I also hold a diploma in software engineering.

My hobbies: I am a beekeeper, I play the violin and my favourite sport is rugby, which I played at amateur level for ten years. I read as much as possible, particularly classic and modern novels, history and current affairs. Terry Pratchett, Hilary Mantel, Patrick O'Brian and Kate Atkinson are some of my favourite authors; Nick Cave and Amy Winehouse are two of my favourite musical artists.
