Art history tutor, arts writer and curator offering engaging personalised lessons

I’m an Australian arts writer, educator and cultural professional based in Paris. I hold a Master of Art Curatorship and a BA in History and Anthropology, and have spent more than a decade working across museums, galleries, publications and cultural organisations in Australia and Europe. I’m widely published as an arts writer and critic, writing about contemporary art, exhibitions and visual culture. Alongside my writing and cultural work, I teach children and teenagers in Paris and hold a Level 5 TEFL qualification. Through my communications practice, Compass North, I also develop and teach art-writing workshops for artists, particularly around artist statements, biographies and finding clear, natural language for complex creative ideas. I’ve taught these both online and in gallery settings in Melbourne. I previously spent four years as Art Editor at The Suburban Review, where I also mentored emerging editors through its Jumpstart a Journal program. I also currently work with Le Salon, a contemporary art platform in France, leading critical conversations with practising artists about their work and helping them explore and articulate the ideas within their practices. For tutoring, I can adapt lessons around what you need most: whether understanding a specific artist, period or movement; analysing artworks and exhibitions; preparing for an assessment; researching and structuring an essay; improving your art writing; or simply developing the way you look at and talk about art. I’m interested in making art history feel like a conversation rather than a list of names and dates: looking closely at artworks, asking good questions, and connecting them to the cultural, political and historical worlds in which they were made.
