¡Hola! I’m Andrea, a native Spanish speaker from Mexico City, now living in Berlin. Working with children is something I’ve always enjoyed. In high school, I took a course called “Teachers”, taught in English, where I prepared lessons on different topics for primary school children throughout the school year. I also volunteered in Mexico, both in the city and in small towns, looking after children, playing with them and teaching them everyday skills like tidying up. Later, as a university teaching assistant, I learned to explain things clearly and patiently. I’m also learning German at the moment, so I know first-hand what it feels like to search for the right word in a new language, and how much easier it gets when learning feels relaxed and fun.
How I’d like to run the sessions: I want them to be built around play and real conversation. My plan is to start with a short chat in Spanish about the child’s day, then move on to a game or activity around a theme they enjoy, such as animals, food, colours, family or their favourite hobbies. I’d use picture cards, songs, short stories and little role-plays, like shopping at a market or ordering at a café, so that new words and pronunciation come naturally. To finish, a quick review game helps the new vocabulary stick.
I’ll adapt each activity to the child’s age and level: songs, movement and games for younger children, and longer conversations and stories for older ones. I’d also love to share a bit of Mexican and Latin American culture, such as traditions, food and festivals, so Spanish feels alive and not just like a school subject. I’m happy to keep parents updated and to adjust the sessions to what works best for their child.
