I was trained by a company called English for Children. I had a curriculum from them and taught 5-10 year olds by way of songs, roleplay, and dialogue repetition. I had groups with 10 children at different homes. In a classroom the teaching was done by following the curriculum of "You & Me" as well as "More". Teaching grammatic usage, common spelling rules, lots of conversation!
I found it important to get all the students talking to get the fear of speaking another language out of their heads. Reading out loud was also an important part of training children to speak clearly without fear of being embarrassed. Encouragement is always the goal from myself including other students!
