I'm Derrick, and I've spent over a decade working with words as a writer, editor, and university instructor. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing and have taught students at the undergraduate and graduate level, from creative writing to research and dissertation work. For the last three years I've also tutored writing and English with Purdue Global, working with students in nursing, business, law, and across the disciplines. Whether you need help with conversation, grammar, academic writing, or just want to feel more confident in English, I build lessons around what you actually need to say. I start with something real, an article, a prompt, a piece of your own writing, and we work from there. We talk, we write, we follow the questions that come up. If a verb tense trips you up, we stop and look at it. If you need specific words for your field, we build them in. The structure is there but the path shifts with you. My hope is that you leave each session not with a list of corrections but with a sharper sense of how you want to sound and a clearer way to get there.
