As a tutor, my approach is student-centered, supportive, and goal-oriented, grounded in 18 years of teaching experience since 2002, including classroom teaching in both the Philippines and the United States through Baltimore City Public Schools. I bring the perspective of a classroom teacher, special educator, and language instructor, which allows me to support a wide range of learners with confidence and expertise.

My lessons begin with baseline data assessments to identify each student’s current performance level, strengths, learning gaps, and individual needs. This ensures that every lesson is personalized, purposeful, and aligned to clear learning goals. I believe that effective teaching starts with understanding where the learner is—and then building a clear pathway toward growth and success.

My teaching methods are rooted in differentiated instruction, meaning I adapt my lessons to fit each student’s learning style, pace, and ability level. I use a combination of explicit/direct instruction, guided practice, interactive discussions, visual supports, hands-on activities, and real-world examples to make learning meaningful and accessible. For younger learners, I integrate engaging visuals, games, and movement-based activities; for older students, I incorporate critical thinking tasks, structured practice, and problem-solving opportunities.

A typical lesson is dynamic and highly interactive. It usually begins with a warm-up or quick review to activate prior knowledge and build confidence. From there, I introduce the lesson objective clearly, model the target skill or concept, and guide students through practice with immediate feedback and encouragement. Students then apply what they have learned independently, allowing me to assess mastery and identify next steps. Each session ends with a reflection, progress check, or short formative assessment to celebrate growth and guide future instruction.

What sets my lessons apart is the balance of structure and encouragement. I create a safe, positive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and taking academic risks. I intentionally build strong relationships with my students because I believe learning happens best when students feel seen, valued, and supported.

As a teacher with an active Maryland Special Education teaching license and a TEFL certification, I work with a diverse range of learners—including elementary and middle school students, English Language Learners (ELL/ELD), students with learning differences, and those needing additional support in Reading, Writing, Math, and foundational skills. Whether a student is catching up, staying on track, or striving to excel, my goal is always the same: to help them build confidence, master essential skills, and become independent, lifelong learners.
